- Local Area Network(LAN)
- - are usually located in single buildings or campuses, and handle interoffice communications.
- Wide Area Network(WAN)
- - cover a large geographical area, and connect cities and countries.
- Bandwidth
- - is the measure of how much information can flow from one place to another in a given amount of time.
- Protocol
- - is a set of rules that makes communication on a network more efficient.
- Topology
- - defines the structure of the network.
- Bus Topology
- - usues a single backbone segment that all the hosts connect to directly.
- Ring Toplogy
- - connect one host to the next and the last host to the first. this creates a physical ring of cable.
- Star Topology
- - connects all the cable to a central point of concentration. This is point is usually a hub or a switch.
- Media Access Control Address (MAC) Address
- - is a unique identifier attached to most forms of networking equipment.
